An open letter [May. 10th, 2014|06:03 am]

Dear guests that drink too much and want me to open the bar for you when it's closed,

It is not worth me losing my job for me to get you a 6 pack. Not even a shot of Jack Daniels. Threatening me will have me call either my houseman, who is a very big guy, or the police, or both! And if you attempt to grab or hit me, I will press charges, even if you are so drunk you couldn't hit the side of a barn. ARGH!

There are nights when I work the audit shift that I want to run out the front doors screaming. Tonight was one of those nights. I started work tonight with a guest yelling at my coworker about the fact that her hot water wasn't as hot as it should be at 11pm at night. Now, some fun facts about my new job. The building itself was constructed in 1907, and is on the historical registry. Since it is an older building, that means that the plumbing isn't quite as modern as it could be. So, you sometimes have to let the water run more than a minute to actually get hot water. This was explained to her before she walks down to the lobby, she insists that she's been running it for AGES but she'll check again, and she goes back up to her room with a major chip on her shoulder. Less than 2 minutes later I get a call from the same guest accusing all of us of purposely turning the hot water back on to scald her for complaining about the hot water...let's just let that sink in for a bit...yeah.
Oh, but it gets even better! (note sarcasm here) About 12:30am I get a guest walk in, slightly tipsy, and wanting a bottle of water. I go run to the back office and snag him one, hand it to him, and say "Hope you have a good night!" Now, let me state now that part of my job is to be nice to everyone. Well, obviously I was hitting on him, because any female being friendly must be interested, right? So, I get asked if I would like to come up to his room for 'a little nightcap'. I can't answer the way I normally would, which would be "fuck off dude", so I say that I have a boyfriend and I politely decline. He then continues to ask me to just 'pay him a little visit, I will make it worth your while, your boyfriend will never know' etc., etc., etc. I finally say to him "I am sorry, I am NOT interested, but have a good night." He walks off to the elevators and goes to his room. End of story right? Oh no, not this night. About 3am I get a call from his room, even more drunk than before, stating that if I don't visit him, he's going to complain about me to management about me "giving him attitude". At this point, I'm pissed, but I try to stay pleasant and say "If you feel that you need to sir, then that's completely within your right to do so. Have a good night." and hang up. Guess who's manager is going to be hearing all about this exchange when he walks in this morning?

Booked my flight to Houston to visit theglen in October, woo hoo! Talked to one of my flight attendants afterwords, and he was impressed with the price I got. He also got my flight info down to "make sure they take care of one of the best people in Philly" awwwww, shucks. Should be a great time, can't wait!

I thought college parents were a bit entitled and picky, but I was so very, very, very wrong. The hotel that I work at is sold out all week because of it, and I have the headache from hell dealing with these people. Flipping out due to them booking the wrong room type? Check. Flipping out because the shades weren't symmetrical when housekeeping did their room? Check. Complaining about everything possible, including the temperature of the coffee? Oh hells yes. I am so very, very tired at this point. It's like babysitting 130 needy kids! ACK!

So, it's been a bit since I posted here, so here's a bit of an update. At the beginning of the month I turned 40, my dad called me and asked "How does 40 feel kiddo?" My response? "A bit like 39 honestly." It's a freaking number, for crying out loud. My son took me out for dinner, which was really nice, and all and all had a pretty good time.
Before Christmas I got to spend a few hours with my oldest friend in the world. A good 7 plus hours were spent catching up, talking about silly things, catching up some more, imbibing a couple of very good beers, and did I mention catching up? Will more than likely visit him in Austin sometime in May. Hopefully by then I'll be able to meet the new girlfriend! I've kiddingly will refer to him as my brother to my friends, but it's pretty accurate, Don is the brother I never had, ya know? So very happy all in all about the catch up day/night. He's still telling me that I'll like Austin a whole lot more than Houston, I keep on saying to him either way, where ever I move to in Texas, I'm a heck of a lot closer than Pennsylvania!
Did Christmas with my dad on the 23rd, then with the rest of my family on the 24th. Only downside is that Jynx went missing Christmas eve. Still can't find him, which has me a bit sad. The plus side is that I got a new android phone, which I just activated (since my plan was ending on the 1st anyways) today. I might have accidentally dialed all of the people that I added to my phone while trying to set it up,(actually, I know I did, mea culpa!) which is not good, but I hope I didn't piss everyone off.

My collection of police officer business cards, let me show you them... [Nov. 12th, 2012|05:56 am]

Each time I have to call the police for where I work, I ask for a name to add to what I'm going to write up for managers, etc. Cover my ass? Why yes, yes I do! So anyways, I get a call from an in house guest around 3 AM, complaining about someone making a whole lot of noise. Okay...I ask the guest if she could tell me if it was coming from above or beside the room they were in so I could possibly call the room and tell them to knock it the fuck off. Nope, no clue. I get the key for the front lobby door and walk over to the area in question. I hear...nothing, absolutely nothing. Walk back up front, get another call from the same guest 25 minutes later screaming that the noises had started again, and whoever it was sounded angry. Got on the phone with the police and 5 minutes later had an officer at the front door (I keep it locked for a very good reason when it's pitch black and no one else is here) explained the situation and waited. Well, seems that when I walked over to that area of my hotel I just missed the end of round 3? 4? Of a very good night for 2 people, who seem to really, really enjoy it loud. *snicker* So after joking with the officer I asked him for his name so I could write it up. "Sure thing! And here's my business card, I normally work nights, so if you need any help just call." So, my count to date of police officer cards? Seven. Eight if you include the police sergeant. I guess I'm popular with the police then?

I know that very few people read this, and I'm perfectly okay with that. Honestly though, I'm planning on asking my dad for a plane ticket for the birthday/christmas present this year. Now here's the quandary: I've always wanted to go to 3 events, those are (in chronological order in the upcoming year) SXSW, A-Kon, and Dragon*Con. So...which one would you go to? The upside to SXSW is that my friend can get passes for shows thru his job, which is c'est tres bon! The upside to all three events is that I should know at least one person there as well. So, thoughts?

Well, I know, long time no write etc, etc. Work honestly went to hell in a handbasket for a few months before I left, I even had my boss offer me $100 to stay home. *blinks* yeah, that wasn't going to happen. I had a freaking great time! Got to hang out with theglen, which was c'est tres bon. Tried a whole bunch of different food, and wound up getting stuck three extra days due to Sandy deciding to hit the east coast. The trip did however make me realize that I no longer want to live in PA. So I've started my job hunt to relocate. Not sure if it'll be Houston or Austin where I'll end up, but it'll definitely be Texas.

woo hoo! [Jun. 14th, 2012|04:22 am]

Well, after much waiting and watching of prices, I've finally booked my flight to Houston. I talked to a few of my US Air crew members, and I'm only spending $70 more by booking now than buying buddy passes from them. The main problem with a buddy pass is if the flight is full, I'm kicked off, and I have to wait for the next flight and hope that's not booked as well. Now that I bought the ticket, it finally hit me: I'm leaving this area(as in the tri-state area) for more than 2-3 days. I haven't done that in years. Wow. Just...wow.

So, this has been rattling around my brain for a bit, so I decided I'd share. I would seriously pay money for this to happen. I'd consider selling an organ on the black market to fund this. Not nessecarially one of my organs, mind you, unless I really had to. Anyways, my list so far (in no particular order):

Jeremy Irons
Patrick Stewart
Christopher Walken This would be silly, but wonderful!
Christopher Lee I believe he'd make anyone afraid of missing a turn.
David Warner
Sam Elliot Don't ask me why, but I've always liked the way his voice sounds.
James Earl Jones
Hugo Weaving
Hugh Laurie
Alan Rickman Could you just picture it? When you missed a turn he could say something like "Tell me, are you incapable of listening, or do you take pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?" or maybe "I'd make a suggestion, but you wouldn't listen."
Brian Blessed There is a voice for download for a GPS in his voice, but it's only for TomTom, and I think it's only available in the UK, which sucks...grr!

I know there should be more on this list, but frankly at this point, I'm too tired to think. Add more if you got 'em!
